Begin with the soil and the surface
Loose dust, a water film and an oily deposit create different tasks. Dust must be detached and retained; liquid must move into or across the cloth; an oily film may need an appropriate cleaner and a rinse or finishing pass. A material name cannot establish the same result for all three.
Also identify the finish: ordinary glass, coated glass, laminate and vehicle paint are separate approval surfaces. A cloth may remove visible soil yet leave streaks, particles or a surface change. Record cleaning effectiveness and surface compatibility as separate outcomes.
What increased contact area can explain
A fabric containing fine fibre elements can present many contact points, but the usable contact depends on yarn, pile, construction, pressure and how the cloth is folded. More theoretical fibre area is not the same as more area actually touching the surface.
The common micro-hook description is an illustration, not a measured explanation for every cloth. It should not imply that fibres cut through any stain or that a particular shape has been demonstrated in an unexamined product. Ask which structure supports a supplier’s claim.
Capillary behaviour and liquid handling
Spaces between fibre elements and yarns can influence wetting and movement of liquid. Fabric geometry, finishes, prior laundering and the cleaning liquid all matter. The result therefore belongs to a defined finished cloth and preparation condition, not just to polyester/polyamide percentages.
Separate initial pickup from retained water and drying. A cloth can take up water during immersion but behave differently when wiping a small film from glass. Use an application trial as well as a mass-based comparison when the retail promise concerns wiping.
When static is relevant
Electrostatic effects may influence attraction and retention of dry particles, but humidity, material combinations and handling affect charging. A damp wiping routine should not be described using the same assumptions as a dry dusting demonstration.
Do not turn static attraction into a claim that the cloth captures all particles or removes microorganisms to a defined level. Particle removal, visible cleanliness and disinfection need different evidence and endpoints.
| Concept | Relevant question | Evidence needed |
|---|---|---|
| Contact area | Does the cloth reach and detach this soil? | Finished-fabric information and application comparison |
| Liquid movement | Does it pick up a defined water film? | Specified surface, load and wiping routine |
| Static effects | Does dry dust pickup change with conditions? | Recorded humidity, materials and dry-use conditions |
| Surface finish | Does cleaning leave an acceptable finish? | Residue and compatibility checks on the intended surface |
A comparison that separates the mechanisms
Request SM21001 grid and SM21005 waffle as two catalogue candidates with matching published blend, dimensions and GSM. Use clean sections of the same surface and a defined dust or liquid load. Keep preparation, folding, passes and observation conditions consistent.
Run dry dusting and damp wiping as separate trials. Photograph the surface before and after, record remaining residue and inspect the cloth. No result is asserted here for either code; the purpose is to make the proposed mechanism answerable through a relevant comparison.

Sources and what this guide establishes
The item links below identify published SINOCLEAN catalogue references. They do not establish a specific upstream manufacturing route, test result, factory capability or certification. Confirm any proposal-specific information against the quotation and representative sample.
