What is a microfiber glass cloth?
A microfiber glass cloth is a low-pile cloth with a smooth or finely textured face, intended for glass, mirrors and glossy surfaces.
Glass cloths are usually sold under names such as suede, fishscale, diamond or flat-weave. They differ from deep-pile plush or coral fleece, which hold more loose material in the pile and suit dusting or absorbent wiping better. The name is a starting point; the approved sample is the specification.
- Lint
- Loose fibre fragments left on the surface after wiping.
- Streak
- Visible lines or haze from cleaner residue, minerals in water, oils or soil redistributed by the cloth.
- Low-pile
- A fabric surface with short or flat loops, as opposed to a deep plush or fleece pile.
What do “lint-free” and “streak-free” mean in a purchase specification?
They are acceptance results, so the specification has to say how they will be judged.
Write down the glass type, cleaner and dilution, lighting, number of wipes and whether the cloth is new or pre-washed. A cloth can leave fibres when new and none after one wash, and streaks often come from the cleaner or water rather than the cloth. Without a defined method, two buyers can reach opposite conclusions about the same sample.
Which SINOCLEAN items are glass cloths?
The SM21 series lists eight 30 × 30 cm glass cloths at 300 GSM and one larger 50 × 70 cm ultra glass cloth.
All share the same listed size and weight, so construction and face texture are what separate them. Request two or three side by side rather than choosing from photographs.

Glass cloth, waffle or general-purpose microfiber: which suits windows?
For a glass-focused retail line, shortlist a dedicated glass cloth and compare it with a waffle cloth on the same glass.
General-purpose grid or pearl cloths are designed for everyday wiping and may hold more cleaner, which can help with soil but can also leave more residue on glass. The table below describes common market positioning, not measured results.
| Construction | Typical face | Commonly marketed for | What to check on the sample |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glass / suede / fishscale cloth | Smooth or fine-textured, low pile | Windows, mirrors, glossy surfaces, final polishing | Lint when new and after washing; residue under raking light |
| Waffle weave | Recessed grid of small pockets | Glass, kitchen surfaces and drying | Drag on wet glass; streaks after the wipe is finished |
| Grid, pearl or textured cloth | Raised pattern | Everyday wiping with a cleaner | Residue on glass compared with a glass cloth |
| Coral fleece / plush | Deep, soft pile | Dusting and absorbent wiping | Loose fibres; better kept as a separate SKU from glass cloths |
Does GSM matter for a glass cloth?
Less than construction. All eight 30 × 30 cm glass cloths in the catalogue are listed at 300 GSM.
GSM tells you fabric weight per square metre, not how the face behaves on glass. Use the microfiber GSM guide to check weight on samples, and judge glass performance with a defined wipe test.
Is a glass cloth safe for lenses, screens and coated glass?
Not automatically. A glass-cleaning description does not establish suitability for optical lenses or every coated screen.
If the pack will mention spectacles, camera lenses, screens or coated glass, test those surfaces specifically and agree the wording before artwork. Edge construction matters too; see how to choose between ultrasonic, overlocked and heat-cut edges.
How should buyers test glass cloth samples?
Use the same glass, cleaner, lighting and routine for every candidate, and test new and pre-washed cloths separately.
Wash a set of samples according to the proposed care label. On a clean pane, apply the agreed cleaner, wipe a fixed pattern and inspect under a raking light. Record visible lint, streaks and drag, then repeat after the agreed number of washes. The linting sample check explains how to separate cloth lint from other residues.
What should a glass-cloth RFQ include?
Item code(s) to compare; construction and face description; full composition; finished size; GSM; edge; colour; care instructions; selling pack; quantity per colour; destination market; and the agreed lint and streak test routine.
